That depends on the insurance. I think so but would refer you to the insurance part of the maint and repair. I think a Knowledgeable person there should be able to answer.
You get a car normally if you are fully comp, other coverage means you hire a car, you pay the hire bill and you send it to your insurance and ask for the money.
Can you afford to do that.
I am fully comp. Third party wont offer a car neither will Third Party Fire and theft if the garage offer and you dont have fully comp is it free or will they bill you.
The 3rd party’s insurance will pay for a hire car/courtesy car but they will not front-up the cash for it. You have to claim it back from them after so be sure to keep your receipts.
Your insurance company will pay for this for you only if it is specified on your policy AND usually only if you have the repairs made at one of their specified repair centres.
I will always avoid their specified repair centres and go to a main dealer as they will do a much better job rather than the minimum they can get away with.
A courtesy car will usually be a micra or something like that. If you hire one yourself you can get a car of the same class as is being repaired.
Pay for it on a credit card. Keep the receipts, send them to your insurer, get them paid back.
Clarify this all with your insurer before you do anything.
insurers dont like paying out for any reason….first and foremost
then you may encounter knock for knock procedure,,,,
that is insurance co.a has an agreement with insurance co.b that they will pay their own clients out themselves and not claim against the other co..
this is ok as far as it goes but while your own insurer pays, they also on renewal will drop your no claims
bonus,,,saying you have made a claim, this has happened to me,fight it and you will get no claims reinstated.
if you do get your insurers in this situation you need to have paid up front for courtesy car cover,,,if not,,,,no chance,
if the other company is paying then yes you should claim for a courtesy car while yours is being repaired,oh and the other thing is that if your company pays you you will have to put up the excess,,£150 or £250 or whatever,,,,,even though the other driver accepted responsibility it took me 3 years to get back my £150 excess and nearly that much in tele cals and postage
Whatever the circumstances, If a curtorsey car is provided it has got to come from somewhere. This is ca either be the Garage that you take it to or your Insurance broker.
When you purchased insurance (If you have), It will be in the cover description, if it is then you will need to get in touch and request one is delivered.
