Water or a rag.You can use a wire brush, but make sure to brush away from yourself. You can wear gloves and eye protection,I usually don’t.If you get any on you just wash it off with plenty of water.
you don’t need to remove anything. The nuts can be loosed without removing the powder. When you go to put the new battery in, use a baking soda mixture and clean around the battery terminals.
Mix some baking soda and water and pour it on it. You will probably have to use vice grips to get it off. Clean the cable real well and replace the bolts.
a cup of vinigar and about 2 lit warm water pour over battery slowly wont hurt anything second method 1 kg baking soda in 4 lt water it will stop all battery acid corrosion. ifyou cannot undo terminal bolts use a spray lube i find inox the best if still not able to shift bolts use a few drops of brake fluid and leve over night do not spill on paint work the other three wont hurt any thing. one of the four tretments above never let me down in 8 years fixing electric forklifts lots of corrosion problems with batterys there. to finish of the job a small amount of petrolium jelly around battery post before the teminal stops corrosion in the future

this is an old remedy, take a can of coca-cola and pour it on the corroded area, it will neutralize the battery acid, and then just rinse off.
